I am an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at Howard University, where I research American constitutional thought and development, federalism, race, abolitionism, and American transcendentalism. I hold a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. from the University of Maryland, and a B.A. from the College of William and Mary, and also studied at the University of Oxford.

I have published on American antislavery and democratic thought in Polity, and have been supported by a Benjamin Franklin Fellowship and Jack Miller Center fellowships, McWilliams, Prestage-Cook, and Tom Carsey awards, and several internal research grants.
